General:
Perennial herb from a stout taproot and branching stem-base covered with persistent stipules, tufted or cushion-forming, to 4 cm tall.
Leaves:
Basal, odd-pinnately compound, 1.5-5 cm long, the leaf axis purple, white soft- hairy; leaflets 7 to 13, lanceolate to elliptic or oblong, 3-6 mm long, soft-hairy on the upper surface, nearly glabrous below, the leaf margins rolled under; stipules straw-coloured, firm, with blunt, triangular free parts, glabrous or nearly so except the margins, which are fringed with long hairs and lack club-shaped structures.
Flowers:
Inflorescence of 1 to 2 pea-like flowers on a 1- to 4-cm long stalk; corollas pink-purple, 11-15 mm long; calyces bell-shaped, appressed dark-stiff-hairy, the tube 4-6 mm long, the triangular teeth 1-2 mm long.
Fruits:
Pods, 1-2 cm long, ellipsoid with hooked beak, unstalked or nearly so, glabrous or minutely dark stiff-hairy, 1-chambered, lying on the ground when mature.
